Features Task for Reading, Writing and Research

This activity can be used as an extension task or follow on task after looking at features of articles in different types of formats such as magazines, newspapers and websites. There are good opportunities for equality and diversity here as publications that students would not normally read can be used to inform and challenge students as they carry out the task.

The students enjoy this guided research task where they look at different formats and then research to locate the answers on the task sheet. The task is very easy to differentiate as you can change the material that is given to the student to fit their ability and needs and the student can also work with others or alone. At the end of the activity the students then discuss and table present what they’ve found which encourages speaking in front of others and appropriate behaviour when others are speaking. The task sheet is included below.
